How to Get Paper in Pokémon Pokopia
Paper is a recycled material in Pokémon Pokopia. Learn how to recruit a Recycle-specialty Pokémon, where to farm Wastepaper, and how to turn it into Paper.

Paper
Paper is an important building material in Pokémon Pokopia: it advances certain quests and is used for furniture such as bookshelves and books. Unlike Lumber or Bricks, Paper cannot be gathered in the wild — you must collect Wastepaper
Wastepaper and have a Pokémon with the Recycle specialty turn it into Paper. If you're comparing materials more broadly, the full Items page is useful context.
1. Find a Pokémon with the Recycle specialty
Ditto
Ditto cannot make Paper on its own. You need a Pokémon with the Recycle specialty to convert Wastepaper into Paper. Start with the Recycle specialty page if you want the full roster in one place.
The easiest one to unlock is Trubbish
Trubbish, which you recruit during the Bleak Beach storyline. To recruit it, build the Trash Collection Site habitat anywhere in Bleak Beach. If you want to compare it with other habitat builds, open the Habitats page. Materials:
- A trash bin —
Garbage bin or
Small garbage can (either type) - A Sign (any type)
- One set of Garbage bags
Everything can be sourced nearby, so the build is quick. Once the habitat is placed, Trubbish will move in.
Later in Sparkling Skylands, during the Rebuild the Huge Building! quest, you will also want a Metang
Metang on hand to produce Paper at scale.
Other Pokémon with the Recycle specialty include:
For the complete roster, check the in-game Habitat Pokédex or Pokédex.
2. How to get Wastepaper
Wastepaper
Wastepaper is what you feed into Recycle. The main sources:
- Sparkling Skylands — the steadiest supply. Smash the grey–purple trash blocks that appear in large numbers across the first two areas for stacks of Wastepaper.
- Sky Dream Island (Dragonite Doll)
Dragonite — with the Dragonite Doll unlocked, the matching Dream Island also has plenty of Wastepaper to collect.
3. Turn Wastepaper into Paper
After you have Wastepaper:
- Bring it to Trubbish, Metang, or any other Recycle-specialty Pokémon.
- Have them use Recycle on the Wastepaper.
- Exchange rate: 1 Wastepaper → 2 Paper —
Wastepaper →
Paper x2
As with Lumber processing, recycling takes real time: drop the materials off and return later to collect the finished Paper.
For every Pokémon with this specialty, see the Recycle specialty page.
4. What Paper is used for
Paper
Paper matters for both story and crafting. If you want to browse every recipe or build that consumes processed materials, the Crafting Recipes page is the best next stop:
- Sparkling Skylands — Rebuild the Huge Building! requires Paper when constructing Skyland Building 4F.
- Endgame Team Initiation Challenge — Challenge 3.
- Furniture such as the Bookcase
Bookcase, Book
Book, and other paper-based pieces.
Tips
- Build the Trash Collection Site as soon as you reach Bleak Beach so Trubbish is ready when you start hauling Wastepaper.
- While exploring Sparkling Skylands, stockpile Wastepaper — the late-game rebuild uses a lot of Paper.
- If one Recycle Pokémon is overloaded, recruit a second (for example another Metang) and run two queues in parallel.
- If you're still building up your island basics, the Beginner Tips guide pairs well with this one.
